  • Remuneration: $161,241 to $168,919 pa (HEW9) (inclusive of $136,251 to $142,738 salary pa, 17% superannuation and 17.5% recreation leave loading)
  • Location: Kelvin Grove (hybrid option available)

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Principal Engineer, Student Systems to join Digital Business Solutions, Administrative Division.

The Principal Engineer, Student Systems plays a key role in leading, managing and coordinating a range of key activities and projects aimed at supporting the University’s goals and ambitions. This includes enabling and supporting development across QUT’s Student Systems, implementation and maintenance, technical quality assurance, and technical innovation to the highest quality standards. This role is responsible for prioritising development tasks across the team of Engineers and effectively managing competing demands to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and timely delivery. This position reports to the Manager, Student Systems for career planning, development, and performance expectations.

What you need to succeed

  1. Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to the completion of postgraduate qualifications in a related area, combined with extensive relevant experience.
  2. Demonstrated leadership experience in managing or leading technical teams within a complex ICT environment, with the ability to inspire performance, foster collaboration, and align team outputs with organisational strategy.
  3. Proven experience configuring and supporting enterprise applications, preferably within the higher education sector, with a strong working knowledge of student administration platforms or similar systems, including the use of low-code development tools to extend and enhance functionality.
  4. Experience collaborating with architecture and integration specialists to lead technical approaches to application interfaces, APIs, and data flows in line with enterprise standards.
  5. Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to consult, negotiate, and co-design solutions with business users, vendors, and internal technical teams to deliver fit-for-purpose digital services.
  6. Proven capability in delivering technical components within projects, including scoping, resource planning, and ensuring quality assurance of systems configuration and implementation in a fast-paced environment.
  7. Demonstrated ability to assess emerging technologies and apply innovative, strategic thinking to enhance system functionality, service delivery, and operational efficiency within an enterprise application portfolio.
