Job Description

Position Summary

The Career Services Department is recruiting for part-time student interns. This 12-week Process Technology Internship at Seadrift Coke is part of the Texas Internship Initiative Grant, offered in partnership with Workforce Solutions Golden Crescent and Victoria College. Designed for students in their final semester of the Process Technology Program, this internship provides valuable, hands-on experience in a real-world chemical processing environment with a leading regional employer.

Interns will work 8–12 hours per week, depending on placement needs. To participate, students must meet the Texas Internship Initiative Grant eligibility criteria. Selected interns will receive a stipend from Victoria College to support transportation, childcare, and tuition/fees during the internship period. This opportunity allows students to apply classroom learning on-site while enhancing their skills and preparing for full-time employment in the process technology field.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Support the daily operations of process units including monitoring equipment, reading gauges, and reporting deviations;
  2. Assist with routine process inspections, data logging, and operational reporting;
  3. Observe and assist with startup, shutdown, and troubleshooting of plant systems;
  4. Learn and apply Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols;
  5. Participate in preventive maintenance and basic equipment checks under supervision;
  6. Communicate effectively with operators and technical staff to understand plant operations;
  7. Maintain a clean and safe work environment;
  8. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

INTERN LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Apply theoretical knowledge from the Process Technology Program to real-world operations
  • Understand the fundamentals of process equipment, flow systems, and control logic
  • Learn safety and compliance practices in an industrial setting
  • Develop basic troubleshooting and process monitoring skills
  • Build professional communication and teamwork experience within the industry

Qualifications

  1. Educational requirements: Currently enrolled in the final semester of the Process Technology Program at Victoria College. This may include the Level 1 Certificate or Associate of Applied Science;
  2. Basic understanding of industrial plant operations, equipment, and safety protocols;
  3. Ability to interpret P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and operational data;
  4. Excellent ability to work as part of a team;
  5. Ability to use basic hand and power tools and computer systems;
  6. Ability to operate with flexible deadlines and schedule;
  7. Strong communication skills and ability to follow direction
  8. Valid drivers license and reliable transportation.

GRANT ELIGIBILITY:

To qualify for this grant funded internship opportunity, students must be able to provide the following upon request. This information will be requested when necessary and is not required to complete the online application;

  1. Proof of income threshold by submitting a 1040 form;
  2. For male applicants, verification of Selective Service registration.

Physical Demands

The intern must be able to perform physical activities typical of an industrial environment, including standing, walking, bending, and climbing for extended periods. The role may require lifting and moving items up to 50 pounds and working in varying environmental conditions such as heat, cold, noise, and confined spaces. Interns must have the dexterity to operate tools and equipment, the ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), and the capacity to see, hear, and respond quickly to alarms and operational signals.
