Location
Our West Campus is located at 2400 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31707. Our Eat Campus is located at 504 College Drive, Albany, GA 31705. The Human Resources office for both campuses is located on the West Campus in Building K, Suite 209.
Job Summary
The Professional Advisor I is responsible for promoting a positive and successful learning experience for students to increase student retention, success, and completion. The Professional Advisor I will work with the student to ensure they are in an appropriate major for their career goals, assist with necessary major changes, and career assessments. The Professional Advisor I will facilitate advising and registration for their assigned student populations, ensure students are connected with student support services and activities, disseminate program information, and track student performance.
The work of the Professional Advisor I involves working closely with stakeholders across campus to build collaborative relationships, remain current in the university's academic policies and program maps by attendance in trainings, advising department meetings, and academic department meetings.
This position requires some evening, weekend, and extended hour work at peak times during the academic season.
Sponsorship is not available for this position.
Responsibilities
- Advise students with regards to their educational, career, personal, and social development needs.
- Support students in understanding and meeting academic requirements and deadlines, completing financial aid, and applying for on-campus housing.
- Remain informed of universities policies, processes, and activities in order to better and more accurately connect students with appropriate resources and campus personnel.
- Remain informed of university programs and program course maps, as well as BOR policies, to ensure accurate advising and course registration by attending regularly scheduled department meetings and advising center meetings.
- Represents the academic advising unit on college and university committees.
- Utilize to it's fullest potential the technologies, software, and processes made available by the university for academic advising and student success and participate in on-going and consistent training to remain current in these practices.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with one (1) year of experience in education, working directly with students.

- This job is performed in an office type environment. Ability to sit at a desk and work at a computer for extended periods of time is required.
- Proficient in the use of desk top technologies such as Microsoft applications and comfortable learning and adapting to new technologies.
- Knowledge of career trends in the major.
- Knowledge of department rules and regulations.
- Participates in ongoing professional development activities that enhance academic advising outcomes.
- Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem-solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management, and presentation skills.
- Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Banner, Electronic Records Management systems, EAB, Microsoft Office Suite, and other systems related to student support).
- Strong attention to detail and follow up skills.
- Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette.
