CityUHK is the first University in the region to offer a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM). The 6-year BVM, established in 2017 in partnership with the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, received dual accreditation from the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council (AVBC) and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) in 2023.

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) was established in 2020 in the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences (JCC) as part of CityUHK. VCS has a clear vision to be Asia’s preeminent body advancing veterinary clinical science in response to evolving societal needs. Our strategic goals include attracting world-class clinical faculty, establishing academic post-graduate veterinary residency-training and Master’s programmes, establishing an outstanding clinical research environment to deliver outcomes that benefit all species, and fostering strong community engagement through excellent clinical service and outreach. Generous start-up grant and administrative support are offered for the appointee. Clinical service is negotiable depending on the interests of the appointee and the needs of the Department.

The position will be appointed on the clinical track or tenure track.

Duties

The appointee will actively contribute to the missions of the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences to train highly professional veterinary clinicians, to advance animal health through cutting-edge clinical research and to engage with and support the local community. The appointee will teach across the BVM curriculum according to his/her skill set to ensure that students can attain Day 1 competence in diagnostic imaging. The appointee will help students integrate and apply knowledge, skills and professional attitudes; and take up administrative work and other duties to facilitate the development of the College and its Departments as a whole. Active involvement in research is expected.

Requirements

The appointee shall possess a veterinary qualification recognised for registration as a veterinary surgeon in Hong Kong with degrees in Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc), or equivalent in all levels of appointments. Board certification (European, Australian/New Zealand, American, or equivalent Boards) in the relevant discipline is required for appointment at Clinical Associate Professor level or above. For Clinical Assistant Professor, credentials for Board certification should be completed, or near completion. Experience in clinical teaching, service and research is required. A PhD is preferred for clinical track and essential for tenure track.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be driven by market competitiveness and individual performance. Excellent fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and relocation assistance (where applicable). Appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
