Professor in Global Change Biology

Vibrant, multidisciplinary and innovative, the Faculty of Arts and Science is one of Université de Montréal’s largest faculties. The Department of Biological Sciences brings together research teams committed to training qualified scientists and responsible citizens by engaging in research to advance knowledge and promoting high-quality teaching. The department is composed of experts working in a multidisciplinary context to understand all facets of life, whether animal, plant, or microbial, from molecules to ecosystems, and to promote a sustainable environment for future generations. The department's professors and researchers have access to high-quality facilities, including the Laurentian Biology Station, which allows for the planning of medium- and long-term field studies.

The applicant will contribute to strengthening research on global change in the Department of Biological Sciences and will participate in the integration of biology training into the faculty program in Environment and Sustainable Development (ESD).

Successful candidates who would need to improve their French will be offered a free learning program through the university to facilitate their transition into the UdeM and Montréal communities.

Day-to-day responsibilitiesThrough your undergraduate and graduate-level teaching, and your research activities, you will contribute to the faculty’s pursuit of excellence. Furthermore, you will promote your discipline and actively participate in the daily activities of a renowned institution. As such, you will:

  • Develop an innovative and internationally competitive research program in global change biology;
  • Teach and supervise undergraduate and graduate students in biological sciences and contribute to the master's program in environment and sustainable development;
  • Contribute to the operation and development of the Department of Biological Sciences, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and the University of Montreal through participation in committees and working groups;
  • Participate in the dissemination of knowledge and the promotion of the University through conferences, publications, and scientific activities.

Qualifications

  • Hold a PhD in biological sciences or a related discipline;
  • Have an excellent publication record in the field of global change biology;
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide high-quality university teaching and student supervision, particularly in quantitative biology;
  • Demonstrate potential to develop internal collaborations within the department, particularly with the ecology group at Campus MIL
  • Demonstrate potential to develop national and international collaborations;
  • Have adequate proficiency of the French language or be committed to learning it once hired, through the Université de Montréal’s French language support program, in accordance with the Université de Montréal language policy.
