Background of the recruitment and description of the project
Osaka City University, which had been established by the Osaka Municipal Government, and Osaka Prefecture University, which had been established by the Osaka Prefectural Government, merged in 2022 to form Osaka Metropolitan University (OMU). Osaka City University started out as the Osaka Commercial Training Institute, and Osaka Prefecture University as a training school in veterinary science. The histories of both universities date back around 140 years, and their development tracked that of the major city of Osaka as the “City of Water,” a strategic transportation hub, while the city itself has developed alongside these two universities. While covering educational fields as diverse as commerce, agriculture, engineering, and medicine, among others, both universities have utilized their respective geographical advantages to contribute to the development of the spiritual culture required by residents of Osaka as a major city as well as the vitalization of its industry and economy, through the organic fusion of theory and practice.

*Osaka Metropolitan University plans to implement College of Creative Studies (CCS) (tentative name) in 2029, and this announcement is for the open recruitment of a full-time faculty member dedicated to that project.
These are subjects to be taught in CCS.
- Community collaboration and solving local issues (fieldwork, PBL, etc.) (to be offered)
- Urban sociology, social design, and local communities (to be offered)
- The fundamentals of co-creation (to be offered)
- Primarily first-year and upper-level seminar courses, etc.
*Includes lectures and seminars on field surveys, community assessments, and community-based PBL aimed at solving regional issues in Osaka area.
- Specialized education and core curriculum in graduate and undergraduate programs (academic divisions and organizations).
*While students from Osaka City University and Osaka Prefectural University are enrolled, you will also be responsible for their education.

Osaka Metropolitan University plans to establish a new academic organization, the "College of Creative Studies (CCS)" (provisional name), in 2029. The objective of CCS is to foster students' problem-solving capabilities through collaboration with local communities and industry, within an international co-learning environment where all courses are, in principle, taught in English and international and Japanese students study alongside each other until graduation. To this end, we invite applications for a full-time faculty position to take charge of the preparations for the launch of CCS, as well as its educational activities and administrative management upon opening, in the field described below.
・Urban sociology, regional sociology, regional economics, social design, community design, public administration and local government studies, urban planning and disaster prevention, or fields related to PBL and fieldwork education aimed at solving regional issues.
*Includes research on diagnosing urban and regional issues (integrated analysis of field surveys, interviews, and quantitative data); collaborative practices with local communities, local governments, and businesses; and research on solving regional issues using methods such as design thinking.
