"Professor W3 (m/f/d) in Road and Highway Engineering Ruhr-Universität Bochum"

The Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum invites applications for the position of a PROFESSOR W3 (M/F/D) IN ROAD AND HIGHWAY ENGINEERING, commencing as soon as possible.

The holder of the position will represent the subject of Highway and Road Engineering in research and teaching. We are looking for a personality with a scientifically outstanding track record and a strong commitment to fundamental research, who publishes with high international visibility and knows how to inspire students and employees. Practical professional experience and a good network in the construction practice of road and highway engineering are of advantage. The future holder of the position should expand the existing areas of specific expertise at the department and actively develop them further. Outstanding achievements in several of the following areas are preferred:

• Innovative asphalt construction methods
• Sustainable alternative materials for bitumen
• Resource efficiency and circular economy in road construction
• Digitalization and automation in highway engineering
• Sensors and energy technology in roads
• Performance monitoring, maintenance management and life cycle analyses of the transport infrastructure

For experimental research, the chair has a laboratory with extensive equipment for testing bituminous binders as well as asphalt-bound and unbound construction material mixtures.

Positive evaluation as a junior professor, habilitation or equivalent academic achievement and evidence of special aptitude are just as much required as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum and to generally get involved in university processes according to Ruhr-Universität Bochum’s mission statement. The candidate has to meet the appointment requirements according to section 36 ff. Hochschulgesetz NRW.

We expect furthermore:

• strong commitment in teaching,
• readiness to participate in interdisciplinary research,
• willingness and proven ability to attract significant third-party funded research projects and to participate in research consortia,
• leadership experience.
