As one of the world's top 100 young universities and New Zealand's newest, Auckland University of Technology (AUT) is a university of opportunity where all students with talent and potential have the chance to succeed. We are a socially-driven university, with equity and excellence at the heart of our purpose and actions. We offer a stimulating teaching and research environment, characterised by strong connections to government, business, and industry. AUT has more than 26,000 students and over 4,000 staff, primarily based at our three Auckland campuses.

Our Law School

AUT's Law School comprises scholars and practitioners dedicated to developing the next generation of legal professionals, providing innovative and comprehensive legal education and research which impacts the legal landscape across New Zealand and the wider Pacific region. Our commitment to Tikanga (the principles and practices of Māori culture and values) and Te Aronui (AUT's Te Tiriti framework) is integrated into our curriculum and the way we work, ensuring that students gain a profound understanding of New Zealand's unique legal landscape. We offer a vibrant, inclusive and engaging environment where students are encouraged to engage critically with the law and learn alongside each other.

We invite passionate and accomplished senior academics to join our team and contribute to our mission of shaping the future of law through impactful teaching and research alongside meaningful community engagement.

The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi

We have a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) opportunity for a Professor or Associate Professor to make significant impact and develop their career in teaching, research and service. We are open to expertise across areas relevant to our Law School, and are particularly interested in applicants who can contribute to our teaching and/or research in any area of the Law.

You will have demonstrated leadership capability and show willingness to take up a future substantial leadership role as opportunities arise, including leading new programme developments, deputy/head of school, associate dean or research centre leader.

You'll teach across programmes as assigned by the Dean of Law. We embrace practice-led, as well as research-informed, approaches to teaching where the student experience is optimised. Your contributions to programme and course development will enhance our continuous-improvement focus and you will support embedding Tikanga Māori into New Zealand's law curriculum.

You will publish actively in your specialised field/s. We offer an excellent research environment with contestable research funds, and the possibility of collaborative work and student research project supervision. The successful candidate will likely seek external research funding, engage with government, business, professional bodies and the community, and contribute to School/Faculty activities.

Senior academics also provide mentorship to other colleagues in both research and teaching. You will have an open, engaging and collaborative attitude that is flexible to changing requirements. You must embrace and value diversity and enjoy working inclusively with students and staff.

What we offer | Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou
