Manchester Metropolitan University – Law School
Professorial Appointment
Manchester Metropolitan University’s Law School is excited to be taking part in the University’s campaign to appoint outstanding research Professors. This is an opportunity for an excellent scholar committed to making a difference for our students and wider society through excellent education that transforms lives and high quality, impactful research to join an exciting and dynamic Law School, within a large, successful institution, capable of supporting your ambitions.
We are based within a fantastic global city and are a warm, supportive and inclusive Law School community. We were delighted to be awarded ‘Law School of the Year’ in the Educate North Awards 2025 and to be part of the Times/Sunday Times ‘Modern University of the Year’ 2026. Our research has delivered impact in national and international legislatures, partnership work with the third sector and attracted funding including from the UKRI, Wellcome, Leverhulme and the British Academy.
As part of the University’s commitment to the growth of our successful Law School, in this particular round of appointments, not only are there are opportunities for us to continue develop our strong and vibrant research community with appointments at Senior Lecturer Level, but there is also an opportunity to join us as a Professor as part of the institutional campaign.
Our key areas of research strength are:
- Rights, Inequalities & Justice
- Sports & Creative Cultures
- Regulation & Sustainability
For this senior appointment, we are looking to further strengthen our Rights, Inequalities and Justice research, but strongly encourage scholars with the ability and commitment to work across broad areas of research within the School.
Rights, Inequalities & Justice draws on broad range of interests and methodologies, including research relating to LGBTQI+ communities, people seeking asylum, children’s rights, caste discrimination, feminist legal scholarship, disability rights, hate crime, human rights defenders, witnesses of crimes and human trafficking. Within Sports Law & Creative Cultures, we are keen to build on what is already one of the largest and strongest groups of academic sports lawyers in the country, with links to the University’s Institute of Sport, leading law firms, and Sports Law institutes across Europe and in India. Our third group, focussed on Regulation & Sustainability, addresses issues ranging from intellectual property, housing regulation, financial regulation, food security and environmental law, drawing methodologies including legal geographies and doctrinal analysis.
In addition to your personal profile of research excellence, we are keen to talk to colleagues with a track record and passion for research leadership to provide further support and mentorship for our outstanding group of early to mid-career researchers. A strong commitment to collaboration across disciplines within the University and beyond would also be welcomed.
You will have a track record of funding success and internationally excellent and world-leading publications. You will have a clear research agenda that will deliver internationally excellent and world-leading outputs for Manchester Met in the coming REF cycle and a strong longer-term research trajectory, including with funding plans, which align to the University’s research strategy.
Our research community is shaping solutions with real impact – locally, nationally and globally. Supported by world-class facilities, major investment and a culture defined by collaboration and excellence, colleagues here are empowered to push boundaries and transform lives.
