Position Summary

Kellogg Community College (KCC) proudly hosts the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program, a cornerstone of our commitment to student success since 1982, funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Our TRIO SSS program serves 250 program participants (students), providing enhanced programs and supportive services designed to foster a strong sense of belonging and community.

As a Program Advisor for TRIO SSS, you will play a pivotal role in our mission to empower students. Reporting to the Director of the TRIO SSS, you will collaborate with a dedicated team to meet grant guidelines and ensure program excellence. Utilizing a comprehensive case management approach, you will provide intensive coaching to help students navigate the academic landscape, while creating and delivering engaging programming that builds a sense of community. This includes organizing activities, workshops, tours, and enrichment events that enhance the TRIO SSS student experience.

A key responsibility of the Program Advisor is to connect students with campus and community resources that support their academic success and completion. Additionally, you will assist the Director by providing critical grant data, ensuring compliance with federal regulations, and contributing to the overall effectiveness of the TRIO SSS program.

Physical Demands

The job responsibilities are performed in an office area and presentation venues. Travel by car required. The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as independent mobility between work areas, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (8 - 45 pounds). Typically requires regular use of one or more physical senses of medium intensity and long duration. Must meet reasonable deadlines, quotas or demands for accuracy, and may be involved in some mildly unpleasant situations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree obtained from an accredited college or university. Please attach unofficial transcripts showing degree obtained and conferral date.
  • One (1) year of experience working with populations similar to those that TRIO serves (first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities).
  • Experience in higher education and/or K-12 setting.
  • Working knowledge and use of student information management system.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree obtained from an accredited college or university.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations including students, faculty, staff, administration and outside agencies.
  • Experience advocating for underserved populations within areas such as policy, programming, and campus culture.
  • Former TRIO participant or similar background.

Proposed Salary

According to the Kellogg Community College Hay Administrative Compensation program, the 2025-2026 annual salary range for a Manager 2 position is $55,594 to $69,491 to start.

Job Duties

Essential Function: Student Success

  • Provide academic and personal support to TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) students utilizing a comprehensive case management approach. Case management includes monitoring student progress and utilizing various retention strategies as needed to ensure student success.
  • Design, implement, and co-lead student success workshops/information sessions related to financial literacy, FAFSA completion, transfer/scholarship/job fairs, etc.
  • Coordinate on and off-campus events and tours for program participants.
  • Coordinate semesterly welcome events for new program participants.
  • Plan and host graduation celebration events/activities for program participants.
  • Build and foster a sense of community among program participants.
  • Collaborate with and direct students as appropriate to specific campus resources, including but not limited to Counseling, Career Services, Advising, Tutoring, Disability Services and Financial Aid.
  • Facilitate support, goal-setting and personal growth opportunities for SSS program participants.
  • Coordinate, develop and facilitate programming including but not limited to educational workshops, guest speakers/lecturers, cultural enrichment opportunities, and community building offerings.
  • Foster student participation in programs.

Essential Function: Grant Management and Data Assistance

  • Assist the director in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of efforts regarding recruitment into the department's programs, student success of program participants and overall communication.
  • Compile detailed student records including creation and maintenance of confidential information within federal guidelines.
  • Perform extensive data entry regarding program participants and maintain detail-oriented records, providing essential reports to the TRIO SSS Director that are critical for SSS grant reporting.
  • Work closely with the TRIO SSS Director on future projects and tasks to ensure accurate and efficient program evaluation and expansion.

Essential Function: Campus Engagement and Participation

  • Network and collaborate with college and community stakeholders to connect students to necessary resources. Connection may include financial assistance through the KCC Foundation and/or other campus/community resources.
  • Provide a distinct presence for special programs at campus events including program participant representation (Bruin Blast/Boost, etc.).
