Department Summary

UCLA Recreation is a large department within the Division of Campus Life in Student Affairs with approximately 90 full-time career and contract and over 1,000 part-time employees. UCLA Recreation provides extensive access to a broad range of recreational activities and wellbeing services, and offers programming which encompasses the competitive, passive, social, cultural, and instructional aspects of recreational activity. In addition, the department manages 15 of the University's recreational and athletic facilities offering recreation, competition, and numerous multi-use options for student and university events.

Position Summary

The Program Director, Marina Aquatic Center is responsible for managing and coordinating UCLA Recreation's boating programs and the operations of the Marina Aquatic Center. Responsibilities include the development and management of a comprehensive program of instructional classes, rental programs, management of the junior rowing program, as well as the maintenance and oversight of the facility and all boating equipment. The Program Director, Marina Aquatic Center supervises five full time staff - four program coordinators and a maintenance technician

Salary & Compensation

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge in sports management and administration. (Required)
  • Skill in budget management including development, initiating transactions, interpreting budget statements and reports (Required)
  • Knowledge of boating and water programs, including sailing, rowing, kayaking, surfing, stand-up-paddleboarding, and windsurfing. Experience in at least one of these activities. Detailed knowledge of field and facility preparation to meet program and safety standards (Required)
  • Skill in evaluating programs and student personnel, being able to make recommendations relative to programmatic objectives and student needs and interest (Required)
  • Detailed knowledge of facility coordination and scheduling procedures to provide for the conduct of classes, programs, practices, events, and rentals (Required)
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse groups of students, staff and colleagues. (Required)
  • Skill in computer use and software applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. (Required)
  • Ability to enforce university and department policies and procedures and take necessary action when misconduct occurs. (Required)
  • Ability to analyze situations and decide on proper course of action. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of facility and equipment maintenance, including repair options for boating equipment. (Required)
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities in the areas of program supervision, policy development and leadership training (Required)
  • Working knowledge of and skill in cardiopulmonary resuscitation practices to assist in medical or accident situations where CPR is needed. (Preferred)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training. (Required)
  • Master's Degree in Sport Management or related field. (Preferred)

8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. PT/variable based upon operational needs.
