Position Highlights
The Program Lead/Scientific Writer will play a central role in supporting the research, funding, and strategic priorities of the University of Arizona Comprehensive Cancer Center (UACC), an NCI-designated Cancer Center. This position serves as a critical liaison among UACC programs, shared resources, grants management, and other administrative units across the University. The Program Lead works with Cancer Center administrative staff and plays a key role in coordinating and preparing major grant submissions and scientific documentation, including the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) renewal. Collaborates with other faculty and staff in UACC and in the administrative & strategy unit to support broader programmatic initiatives, develop the research strategy, and support institutional research goals.
This position is in-person, with the possibility of a hybrid work arrangement based on departmental needs.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Coordinate scientific writing for the competitive and non-competitive CCSG renewal process, collaborating closely with program leaders, members, and UACCC units.
- Write and edit significant portions of the CCSG and related institutional reports in partnership with program and component leaders.
- Create scientific visuals (figures, graphics, charts) to represent programmatic aims, strategic priorities, and complex concepts for reviewers, collaborators, leadership, and national organizations.
- Plan and administer program objectives, budgets, and activities based on direction communicated by Center leadership. May assist in determining potential risks associated with research.
- Identify emerging trends and recommend program directions. Makes recommendations for improvement to management.
- Provide specialized expertise in program management, including implementing grant-funded initiatives, aligning activities with strategic goals, and serving as a resource for faculty and staff.
- Participate in center-wide events (symposia, retreats, workshops) and contribute to fostering a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.
- Communications:
- Partner with UACC communications staff to develop scientific stories and content for newsletters, press releases, websites, and social media.
- Develop scientific communications targeted to a variety of audiences from expert to lay person.
- Perform other duties as assigned to advance the mission of UACC.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong track record in grant writing, editing, and scientific communication.
- Ability to work effectively across multiple teams.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in a cancer-relevant discipline.
- Experience in NCI-designated Cancer Center operations.
- Experience in preparing and managing large, multi-component institutional grants (e.g., CCSG, P01s, SPOREs, U-series).
- Experience in data collection, analytics, and visualization, including preparation of high-quality graphics for scientific and administrative reporting.
- Experience managing complex programs and developing strategic initiatives.
