Program Manager, Initiative for IDD
Overview
Yale School of Nursing (YSN) seeks a highly skilled, collaborative, and mission-driven Program Manager to provide leadership and operational oversight for the Initiative for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). This groundbreaking initiative advances YSN’s curriculum, clinical training, and outreach to ensure advance practice nursing graduates are fully prepared to deliver inclusive, person-centered care for individuals with IDD across the lifespan.
The Program Manager will serve as the central hub of coordination, supporting faculty, students, clinical partners, and community collaborators to ensure the initiative’s success. This position requires strong program management skills, excellent communication, and the ability to cultivate relationships that enhance YSN’s role as a national leader in advancing care for individuals with IDD and their families.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide administrative support to the IDD Committee and ensure effective advancement of key initiatives.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to implement new program components, courses, and simulation-based learning activities.
- Partner with YSN colleagues and other relevant constituents to establish and maintain efficient systems, processes, and procedures.
- Monitor program progress across curriculum integration, simulation-based education, and clinical partnerships, providing updates and recommendations as needed.
- Manage the financial operations, including budget oversight, and provide day-to-day coordination and guidance for the initiative.
- Cultivate and sustain strong working relationships with community partners, clinical collaborators, and subject matter experts.
- Support clinical placement activities to ensure students receive meaningful and aligned experiential learning opportunities in IDD Care.
- Collaborate with the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs on stewardship activities and contribute to fundraising initiatives.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute professional development events such as speaker series, workshops, or symposia.
- Contribute to both independent and collaborative projects, supporting ongoing and special initiatives within YSN and Yale University.
- Champion YSN’s values in fostering a culture of collaboration, respect, and continuous improvement among students, faculty, staff, alumni, and partners.

Required Skills and Abilities
- Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability in all aspects of program management including basic competency to effectively manage financial and budgetary information and systems.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively convey project information to diverse stakeholders.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues.
- Ability to work with an interdisciplinary team and develop relationships across the university.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
- Extensive project management experience.
Principal Responsibilities
- Oversees the advancement and growth of the program. Gives direction and leadership supporting the philosophy, mission, strategy, and annual goals and objectives. Assumes primary accountability for disseminating and publishing all program information to create public awareness and support of the program.
- Works closely with leadership, internal and external colleagues, and community residents to further develop and implement strategic plans.
- Identifies, solicits, and cultivates community partnerships and collaborations to assist in the development and growth of the program. Develops the metrics to identify and measure the success of the program. Responsible for measurements of grant success and related evaluation.
- Assists in identifying and evaluating potential future funding sources, and contributes to the submission of grants and contracts supporting the program, including the annual submission and writing of all content areas and budgetary sections of grant applications. Develops and manages the program’s operating budget.
- Develops the administrative infrastructure of the program. Manages human resource and administrative functions of the program, including staffing and hiring, supervision, performance development, counseling and discipline, if warranted. Oversees and manages information systems, facilities, and space needs.
- Investigates, identifies, implements, and oversees the maintenance of systems to gather, track, and report information to support the initiatives of the program. Tracks all program activities and regularly informs leadership of progress on each initiative. Recommends structural or programmatic adjustments, changes or additions based on full knowledge of missions, goals, and objectives.
- Initiates, designs, and manages the compilation of program communications; identifying outreach potential, and promoting philanthropic and collaborative support of the program. Contributes to the development and assists in the management of content on the program’s website and monitors all changes and additions to the editorial content.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in a related field and four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
