Duties & Responsibilities:
The program specialist supports programs and events offered by the Office of the Provost - Faculty Affairs. This role specializes in overseeing a complex portfolio of professional learning and orientation events for faculty at all career stages, ensuring alignment with university strategic goals.
Responsibilities include:
- Plan and execute high visibility in-person, hybrid, and online events and sessions for faculty and leaders
- Coordinate event logistics, including communication, marketing, catering as needed
- Contribute to long-term and strategic planning of events with a focus on continuous improvement
- Develop materials for use in presentations, meetings, and events
- Serve as the lead on-site or virtual manager during events, providing hands-on support, high-level troubleshooting, and directing event resources, as necessary
- Active collaboration with various university and external partners to ensure seamless program planning and execution.
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
- Experience with Canva or other publishing software
- Experience planning and executing events
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Responsive, accurate, and timely communication and action
- 2-3 years of related experience
- Provide hands-on support during events, including setup, troubleshooting, and coordination
- Ability to effectively communicate and liaise with internal departments, sponsors, and partners to ensure event success
- Conduct needs assessments and market research to inform program themes, formats, and delivery methods.
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and experience
- 3+ years of related experience
- Project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities autonomously.
- Experience in a higher education or academic setting
- Experience with budget management and vendor negotiation
Salary Range: Commensurate with experience within market-based salary range.
