Position Summary

Rutgers School of Health Professions (SHP) is seeking a Program Support Specialist (Student Counselor) to work in the Dean's Office-Administration.

Under the supervision of the Director of Student Success and EOF the Program Support Specialist (Student Counselor) will support the Office of Enrollment Management/Academic Success by providing academic, financial, and career advisement; along with personal counseling to students. This individual will assist in the development, coordination, and conducting of personal/career/and academic seminars and evaluates the delivery of seminars and services to students in addition to other duties as assigned within the Office of Enrollment Management.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Assists the Office of Enrollment Management with various data collection and reporting with respect to the recruitment and retention of students.
  • Will provide academic, career, financial, and personal counseling on an individual & group basis to students through individual counseling sessions or group sessions.
  • Responsible for monitoring the academic progress of students through the use of monthly progress reports. Meets with students and provides feedback regarding academic performance and will document each counseling sessions.
  • Responsible for maintaining student files and documents summary of counseling contacts on Counseling Contact forms. Sends counseling contact information to Staff Assistant for log completion of statistical reports.
  • Will conduct weekly and monthly outreach activities to students that fall below a 3.0 grade point average, are not meeting academic action plan participation requirements, and any student who is in violation of the University's Code of Conduct policies.
  • Tutor referrals and reports to Assistant Directors requests.
  • Assists in recruiting and in the supervision of tutors and coordinates group and individual tutoring sessions. Will assess tutor regularly regarding student assistance and follow-up with students who tutor may deem as academically under-performing.
  • Makes students aware of all required deadlines including: FAFSA deadlines and other financial aid requirements, registration, and graduation deadlines. Assists in providing information to students on financial aid matters including state and federal grants, financial aid, scholarships and loan programs.
  • Assists in the coordination of all aspects of student success activities. Identify workshop topics and facilitators.
  • Will assist in the coordination of topics to be presented during professional development workshops for student each month.
  • Assists in the design and continuous updating of information in the Student Success webpage and CANVAS Shells.

Minimum Education and Experience

Master's Degree in Counseling, Student Personnel Services, or closely related field plus two (2) years of administrative experience (5 years preferred) in a government agency, university setting, or large business office with responsibility for office management, preparation of reports and budgets, supervision of staff, etc.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Standing, sitting, walking, talking, and hearing.
No special vision requirements.
Must be able to lift or exert force up to ten (10) pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Office environment. Moderate Noise.
