Project Manager and Analyst
Position Summary
This position supports data-informed decision-making by designing, managing, and executing research, reporting, and data management projects across the institution. This role requires strong analytical skills and experience managing complex projects as well as a demonstrated ability to learn and implement new technologies. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing the University’s data and reporting infrastructure so that NMHU is better equipped to make data informed decision related to institutional planning, student success initiatives, learning outcomes assessment and a wide range of other initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate and support Federal (IPEDS, HERD, GSS, etc.), state reporting (NMHED), and internal (fact book, department reports, data requests) reporting.
- Serve as project manager for the office, tracking multiple initiatives related to data management, reporting, and data governance.
- Lead or coordinate cross-institutional technical projects involving the development, maintenance, and quality control of data systems and reporting infrastructure.
- Design and manage data analysis and integration projects across multiple campus systems, including the ERP (Banner), LMS (Brightspace), Admissions system (Slate), and other platforms (e.g., Handshake, Ad Astra, Explorance Blue).
- Collaborate with campus stakeholders to support strategic initiatives through customized research and reporting. Provide technical and analytical support for accreditation, student learning outcomes assessment, and institutional planning.
- Use data reporting tools such as Argos, Cognos, Power BI, Tableau, or similar to extract, transform, analyze, and visualize data.
- Develop and document repeatable workflows for data reporting, survey administration, and external compliance submissions (e.g., IPEDS, state reporting).
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of data definitions, documentation, and institutional data governance frameworks.
- Support academic units in using the LMS (Brightspace) to collect learning artifacts and apply scoring rubrics.
- Assist with training and mentoring student employees.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a field requiring quantitative or analytical skills (e.g., social sciences, education, statistics, computer science, public policy).
- At least 2 years of experience in a data-related role, preferably within higher education (e.g., institutional research, registrar, financial aid, IT).
- Demonstrated proficiency with at least one data reporting or visualization tool (e.g., Argos, Cognos, Tableau, Power BI) and familiarity with data storage systems (e.g., ODS, data lake, data warehouse).
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage timelines, coordinate across departments, and deliver results independently.
- Demonstrated aptitude for learning new software, systems, and tools.
- Understanding of student learning outcomes assessment and its role in institutional effectiveness.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in higher education, business, statistics, or a related field.
- College/University teaching experience.
- Familiarity with state and federal reporting in higher education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience with higher education student information systems such as Banner or PeopleSoft.
- Experience supporting accreditation processes or academic program reviews.
- Familiarity with best practices in data governance and data ethics.
- Curiosity, creativity, and a proactive problem-solving approach.
- Clear and effective communication with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and integrity.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Physical Demands
Ability to work using computer screens for extended periods of time.
Working Environment
Office setting. Remote employees will be considered.
Pay Rate
51,000-55,000
