We are seeking to appoint a Project Manager to join Professor Gilbert’s team within the Pandemic Sciences Institute, Nuffield Department of Medicine. The group has extensive experience in vaccine design, preclinical testing, manufacturing and clinical testing, including leading the rapid development of a replication-deficient simian adenoviral vectored vaccine against SARS-CoV-2. The team’s programmes for vaccine development towards emerging pathogens, including MERS, Lassa and Nipah, have expanded significantly and are funded by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI). The role will support the planning and management of projects within the Gilbert Group, working closely with Professor Dame Sarah Gilbert and the Global CMC Program Lead.

You will be responsible for planning and managing the set-up activities of a variety of projects within the group, ensuring objectives are met within deadlines and in accordance with University standards and funder terms and conditions. Reporting to the Global CMC Lead, you will manage day-to-day operations, monitor project milestones, risks and scope changes, and implement corrective actions where required. You will oversee vaccine manufacturing and clinical trial progress in collaboration with internal project members and external subcontractors, liaise with the NDM Grant Management Team to support reporting and grant applications, and manage project budgets in line with University financial policies. The role includes leading project teams, facilitating communication across stakeholders, preparing and coordinating meetings and reports, servicing relevant committees, and representing the project at internal and external scientific meetings and public engagement activities. You will also ensure compliance with research governance, legislative and financial requirements, and support staff to follow University and project-specific directives, including health and safety regulations.

It is essential that you are educated to degree level or have equivalent experience and have considerable experience in coordinating and managing complex projects. You will demonstrate highly developed problem-solving and organisational skills, with the ability to meet competing deadlines. You must be able to communicate effectively to a high standard, including complex scientific matters, both orally and in writing, and have good interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with others. The ability and willingness to work independently, support and supervise others as required, and work as part of a cross-functional team are essential, along with intermediate computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office.
