About the Opportunity

Western Sydney University is seeking a dedicated Project Support Officer to join the Indigenous Leadership team. A key responsibility of the Project Support Officer is to oversee the full publication lifecycle of The Yarning Circle, ensuring its successful planning, development, production, and dissemination. The role plays a vital part in shaping the University’s external image, amplifying Indigenous success stories, and fostering meaningful connections within the University and the broader community. This is an exciting opportunity to make a genuine impact in an institution committed to truth-telling, cultural safety, and the celebration of Indigenous knowledge.

This is a part-time (0.4 FTE, 14 hours per week), ongoing position based at Western’s Parramatta South Campus, although travel to other campuses may be required. For further details, please refer to the Position Description linked here: Project Support Officer - Position Description.

Key Responsibilities

As Project Support Officer, the role will contribute to a range of impactful activities, including:

  • Managing the end-to-end publication lifecycle of The Yarning Circle, including content planning, stakeholder coordination, writing, editing, production, and distribution.
  • Providing professional media support and strategic advice to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Indigenous Leadership.
  • Collaborating with the Media and Public Relations team on University-wide projects and announcements.
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Researching, writing, and disseminating high-quality media content and news stories.
  • Enhancing the visibility of Indigenous leadership initiatives through digital and social media engagement.
  • Promoting Indigenous voices and achievements.
  • Monitoring media coverage and providing analysis to inform ongoing strategies.

The ideal candidate will bring a passion for Indigenous advancement, strong communication skills, and a collaborative spirit. To be successful in this role, candidates should demonstrate:

  • Completion of a degree and/or equivalent professional experience and training in media relations.
  • High-level written communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a talent for identifying media opportunities.
  • Experience engaging with social media channels and digital communication.
  • Commitment to best practice and quality service delivery.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a small, supportive team.
  • Experience working with Indigenous people and communities.
  • Capacity to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity.

Remuneration Package: HEW Level 5 $39,808 to $45,018 p.a. (comprising Salary of $33,638 to $38,041 p.a., plus 17% Superannuation and Leave Loading). Please note that this salary is pro-rata based on 0.4 FTE.
