Job Summary

Salary is commensurate with education and experience. As part of the comprehensive compensation package, campus housing is provided to support the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs in their active engagement with the university community.
Duties and Responsibilities
Academic Leadership
- Oversee all academic programs, departments, and colleges
- Develop and implement academic policies and strategic initiatives
- Ensure curriculum quality, relevance, and innovation
- Promote faculty excellence in teaching, research, and service
- Lead accreditation and assessment efforts to maintain academic standards
Strategic Planning and Budgeting
- Align academic goals with the university’s strategic plan
- Manage academic budgets and allocate resources effectively
- Collaborate with financial officers to ensure fiscal responsibility
Faculty and Staff Management
- Recruit, evaluate, and support faculty and academic staff
- Oversee tenure, promotion, and professional development processes
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive academic environment
Duty/Responsibility
- Lead the development and implementation of academic policies, programs, and strategic initiatives
- Oversee all academic units, including colleges, departments, and the library.
- Promote excellence in teaching, research, and service among faculty and staff.
- Manage academic budgets and allocate resources to support institutional priorities.
- Support student retention, graduation, and post-graduate success.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.
- Foster an inclusive and collaborative academic environment.
- Advocate for faculty and students by strengthening and expanding academic programs, with a focus on growing graduate education and online learning to meet evolving needs.
- Recruit and retain faculty in a teaching and research environment, ensuring academic quality and distinction
- Direct all functions of the university in conformity with board of trustees and presidential direction, university policy, federal, state and local law and regulations
- Provide leadership in support of the academic enterprise, as well as support for the pursuit of excellence in each college/school and advancement of university vision.
- Foster innovation in curriculum design, and use of technology to enhance learning outcomes, increase access, and strengthen CU’s competitive position.
- Responsible for the oversight of the quality and practices associated with undergraduate, graduate, and professional study at the university.
- Ensure successful institutional and specialized accreditation efforts, compliance with federal and state regulations, and the continuous improvement of academic quality through robust assessment and review processes.
Minimum Education- Doctorate
Required:
- Earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution
- Distinguished record of academic achievement and scholarly contributions
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive leadership experience in higher education
Preferred:
- Experience with accreditation, online education, and global academic initiatives
- Familiarity with emerging trends in higher education and technology-enhanced learning
Required Skills
- Proven success in strategic planning, budget management, and academic administration
- Demonstrated ability to provide effective long term vision and leadership in a changing higher education environment
- Demonstrated success in leading work groups with complex challenges and opportunities
- Ability to maintain productive relationships with all segments of education, the community, and appropriate governmental entities
- A deep appreciation for collaborative decision-making and the ability to foster synergy among different groups to set academic priorities and allocate resources effectively.
- The capacity to make principled, academically sound decisions, even in challenging circumstances, while empowering faculty and administrators and prioritizing the University’s best interests.
- A solid understanding of university financial operations, including experience in budget development and resource management, in close consultation with the Vice President for Finance and the President.
- Innovative leadership with a clear focus on supporting faculty development and student success.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and sustain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated champion of student-centered learning and faculty development
