Provost
The Organisation
RMIT University is a global university of technology, design and enterprise and built for relevance, impact and scale. We create transformative experiences for learners and deliver real‑world impact through education, research, innovation and deep engagement with industry, communities and government.
With campuses across Melbourne and a strong international footprint in Vietnam and Europe, RMIT is proudly global and distinctly applied. We don’t sit on the sidelines - we partner and shape what’s next.
Our people are central to our success. Guided by our values of Inclusion, Imagination, Integrity, Courage, Passion and Impact, RMIT is a place where ideas move quickly, leadership is shared and diverse perspectives are not only welcomed, but expected. We respectfully acknowledge the Woi Wurrung and Boon Wurrung peoples of the eastern Kulin Nation as the Traditional Owners of the lands on which our campuses stand, and we are committed to reconciliation and Indigenous self‑determination across our systems, culture and decisions.
The Role
Reporting to the Vice‑Chancellor and President, the Provost is RMIT’s senior academic leader, responsible for the coherence, quality and performance of the University’s academic mission across education and research, including RMIT Vietnam.
The Provost leads at scale, with end‑to‑end responsibility for academic strategy, policy, performance and investment across Colleges, Vocational Education, and Research and Education portfolios. This is a role with real authority and real consequence - shaping how a large, complex, dual‑sector university delivers on its purpose.
As a trusted partner to the Vice‑Chancellor and a key member of the University Executive Committee, the Provost works across the enterprise to drive academic excellence, enable strong governance and balance ambition with disciplined execution and risk management.
The role has line‑of‑sight leadership of the Deputy Vice‑Chancellors across academic colleges, Vocational Education, Research & Innovation and Education, as well as the Pro Vice‑Chancellor, RMIT Vietnam. Central to the role is building a strong “one RMIT” mindset -connecting disciplines, sectors and geographies, while representing the University with credibility and influence at the highest national and international forums.
The Person
You are a credible, contemporary academic leader with a strong record of leadership at senior executive level in large, complex organisations. You bring deep expertise across both education and research, and a clear understanding of how technology, data and AI are reshaping the academic landscape.
You lead through influence rather than position. An exceptional communicator and collaborator, you are comfortable engaging governing bodies, senior leaders, partners and policymakers and you know how to translate strategy into outcomes at scale.
Strategic and future‑focused, you are equally comfortable in detail, able to navigate regulatory complexity, governance expectations and financial realities without losing sight of academic quality or impact.
Most importantly, you role‑model inclusive, values‑led leadership aligned to RMIT’s Be–Know–Do framework, and you are motivated by purpose, scale and the opportunity to shape what comes next.
