Basic Function
Please Note: Kern Community College District accepts applications for part-time, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis. This allows the division to contact qualified applicants immediately, if a need arises without having to wait for a period of time to advertise. If there is an interest and/or need within the specific department, applicants who meet the minimum requirements will be contacted by respective department supervisors, deans and/or division chairs. Kern Community College District is soliciting applications for part-time, hourly adjunct instructors. The starting salary range is $67.00/hour; Hourly rate may vary based on type of assignment and the Lecture Hour Equivalent (LHE) formula. For more information, refer to the CCA collective bargaining agreement or your college HR office.
Representative Duties
The successful applicant will be expected to provide instruction in psychology courses, particularly General Psychology, for transfer to four-year institutions. The general psychology course is a 54 hour lecture course which offers students an introduction to the scientific study of behavior: perceptions, thinking, motivation, emotion, intelligence and learning, as well as, general psychological principles. The course may be delivered in a classroom in both Bishop and Mammoth Lakes two days per week for 16 weeks and may be delivered partially via interactive television and/or online.
The successful applicant may be expected to spend equal time in both the Bishop and Mammoth Lakes classrooms and complete any required training for online instruction, as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's in psychology;
OR
- Bachelor's in psychology AND Master's in counseling, sociology, statistics, neuroscience, or social work;
OR - Possession of a valid credential which authorizes full-time teaching of Psychology at the California Community College level;
OR - The equivalent.
Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments in the field may be judged as equal to the stated minimum qualifications for these positions. Candidates who feel they possess such equivalent qualifications must request and submit an APPLICATION FOR EQUIVALENCE form. Supporting documents must be included with the completed form.
AND - A demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
