Public Safety Officer
The Public Safety Officer patrols building interiors/exteriors and parking facilities, monitors ongoing campus security issues, and responds to requests for assistance. This role also provides initial response as needed, including first aid. The Public Safety Officer directs scene activities and coordinates communication with internal and/or external agencies as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Weekly Schedule (subject to change based on need): 4 on 3 off rotating schedule to - Noon to 10pm
This is a full time 1.0, on-site position with benefits.
About The Department:
Macalester’s Public Safety Department was established in 2019 and is currently fitted with 6 Full Time Officers and a handful of Part Time. Public Safety is committed to assisting all members of the Macalester College Community in providing for their own safety and security. The department operates as a customer service oriented organization that often serves as a vital resource in connecting students, staff and faculty with vital resources on campus.
Responsibilities
- Building Lock Ups/ Openings
- Exterior and interior patrol of campus and surrounding areas
- Responding to calls for assistance, medicals
- Responding to building alarms,
- Property management and protection,
- Camera surveillance,
- Event security, parking enforcement, etc.
Qualifications
- 1-3 years of relevant experience required. Pertinent experience could include security, law enforcement, social work, corrections, etc.
- Education:Associates degree or higher preferred in relevant fields, GED required.
- Understanding of MN State Statutes, City Ordinances, Emergency Medical Responder Certified, ASP Certified, Defensive Tactics, College Policies, Mandated Reporter for Clery.
- Ability to anticipate/solve problems based on prior experience, information and/or changes to laws/regulations. Problem solving and solution implementation.
- Assignments require high level of judgment, initiative, creative approaches to trouble shooting and the ability to make recommendations on improvement.
- Must be able to operate and understand the card access software/hardware and understand CCTV software/hardware.
Compensation:
The hourly wage for this position will be $22.85 to $23.89, depending on experience.
