Purchasing Operations Senior Buyer
Scope of Position
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) Department of Pharmacys mission is to improve peoples lives through pharmacy practice innovation, comprehensive medication education, and collaborative clinical and practice research. The Department of Pharmacy is responsible for the ordering, receipt, storage, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals throughout the OSUWMC. In addition, the Department is responsible to meet regulatory and enforcement requirements for the secure access of pharmaceuticals within the OSUWMC. This position will provide corporate inventory/procurement guidance for Havener Eye Institute clinics that administer medications within the medical center. Havener Eye Institute has approximately five clinics incurring approximately $5M in drug expenses annually.
Position Summary
The Pharmacy Senior Buyer works under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager and has purchasing purview for the Havener Eye Institute. The buyer supports the clinics with purchases of pharmaceutical supplies and services, assuring cost containment, maintaining appropriate inventory levels, directing end-users to approved products and vendors whenever possible. The buyer is responsible for daily processing of pharmaceutical supplies and services within the constraints of our primary and secondary vendor agreements, special requisitions and expediting orders, if necessary, to meet critical patient care and operational needs. They monitor electronic orders in real-time and take necessary actions to prevent potential delays and pricing issues and manages medication recalls for the clinics. The buyer will also aid in approval of free medication/medication samples and aid in the inventory management of those medications. This role will provide daily onsite support and will be responsible for routinely visiting clinics throughout the Columbus metropolitan area.
Minimum Qualifications
For Hire:
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent
- At least 4 years of relevant experience in Supply Chain Management, Business, Healthcare or relevant field
- 2-4 years of relevant experience in pharmacy operations or as a pharmacy technician
- Pharmacy Technician Certification (may receive after hire)
Preferred:
- Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Healthcare or relevant field
- Relevant experience such as working as pharmacy technician, pharmaceutical care inventory management, and prior purchasing experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Certification in a related field
