Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join School of Computer Science, Faculty of Science.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will join a collaborative team of researchers for the Australian Research Council Discovery Project 'Supporting independent living with "seeing" technologies'. The project will engage people with cognitive disabilities in the design of the next generation of home assistive technology, leveraging a step change in artificial intelligence. The successful candidate will ideally have research expertise in Human-Computer Interaction, with participatory design and in the disability sector. A technical background in Computing or Robotics is strongly recommended. The position-holder will conduct innovative qualitative research, including coordinating the project's fieldwork and will contribute to the supervision of students.

What you need to succeed

Level A 

Completion or near completion of a doctoral qualification in human computer interactions, computer science, robotics or related fields. 

  1. Demonstrated ability of publishing qualitative research in leading journals and conferences.  
  2. Demonstrated experience in collaborating with people with a disability in participatory design or co-design settings. 
  3. Demonstrated ability to build interactive prototypes that embed AI-features (voice, text or image processing).  
  4. Demonstrated ability to innovate and work independently. 
  5. Developed organisational, communication and interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to work collegially and cooperatively in a team environment. 

Level B

Completion of a doctoral qualification in human computer interactions, computer science, robotics or related fields. 

  1. Proven track record of publishing qualitative research in leading journals and conferences.  
  2. Demonstrated experience in managing collaborative research projects with people with a disability in participatory design or co-design settings. 
  3. Demonstrated ability to build interactive prototypes that embed AI-features (voice, text or image processing).  
  4. Proven ability to innovate, work independently and supervise at graduate and postgraduate levels. 
  5. Highly developed organisational, communication and interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to work collegially and cooperatively in a team environment.
