Departmental Overview
The UC Berkeley Wireless Research Center is an established leader in university-industry-government research partnerships resulting in pioneering circuits and system-on-chip innovations for high-performance analog, digital, and mixed-signal applications.
The Center has forged deep relationships with industry leaders to facilitate rapid technology transfer since being founded in 1999. BWRC provides an environment for research into core issues for future generations of wireless and wireline communication systems, as well as a platform to expand graduate student instructional programs. Research focuses on highly-integrated CMOS implementations optimized for the lowest energy consumption, leveraging advanced communication algorithms and architectures. ASIC proof-of-concept prototype chips are fabricated using leading-edge process technologies and are evaluated in a state-of-the-art, in-house laboratory.

Responsibilities
- 65% Carries major responsibility for accomplishment of research objectives in relationships with investigators, manufacturers, contractors, and Campus staff members as a principal assistant to the faculty investigator or research administrator in charge.
- 20% Provides direction and oversight to researchers on more complex research projects and initiatives.
- 10% Represents the unit and/or Principal Investigator to whom they are responsible at meetings and conferences in matters related to engineering design considerations and financial requirements.
- 5% Guides the gathering of information during planning stages.
Required Qualifications
- Expert skills associated with being recognized as a subject matter expert in the field.
- Expert knowledge associated with the planning, development, and construction of the most complex and significant engineering projects and initiatives.
- Expert knowledge of highly specialized design work related to custom integrated circuits, FieldProgrammable Gate Arrays, and related software engineering.
- Expert knowledge of dozens of programming languages, including C, C++, Java, JavaScript, PHP, C-shell, Bourne shell, and Python.
- In-depth and advanced knowledge of the engineering field and applies principles, practices, and procedures within the discipline to complete the most difficult, complex, and significant assignments.
- Advanced project management skills to assume responsibility for the accomplishment of research objectives that are significant to the Campus and industry.
- Advanced communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
- Advanced interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner with both internal and external constituencies; readily assess complex challenges and barriers and recommend effective resolutions.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and influence others on projects of significance.
- Ability to execute large and complex work assignments to meet deadlines and ensure adherence to quality standards.
- Doctorate in a related field or an advanced degree in a related area with related experience.
- Requires experience with dozens of programming languages, including C, C++, Java, JavaScript, PHP, Cshell, Bourne shell, TCL/Tk, Scheme
- Requires experience installing and using advanced Computer-Aided Design tools, including: Design Compiler, Modelsim, Virtuoso, Ansoft HFSS, Keysight, Innovus, Astro, Calibre, and Xilinx Vivado.
