Build your own research programme at Universidad de Burgos
The Spanish State Research Agency (Agencia Estatal de Investigación, AEI), the national agency responsible for funding research in Spain, is launching the Ramón y Cajal 2026 Programme (https://www.aei.gob.es/convocatorias/buscador-convocatorias/ayudas-contratos-ramon-cajal-ryc-2026), one of Spain's leading programmes for attracting outstanding international and Spanish researchers to universities and research institutions.
Through this programme, Universidad de Burgos is seeking outstanding researchers in Historical grammar of the Spanish language who are ready to establish and lead their own independent research programme in Spain.
A Ramón y Cajal 2026 position offers the opportunity to develop an independent research career with substantial resources to establish your own research line and build a research team.
What a Ramón y Cajal contract offer:
- 5-year research contract at the University of Burgos. After that, a mandatory institutional commitment to the creation of a permanent position in the University.
- Minimum gross salary of 40.000€ per year.
- At least 200.000€ in dedicated research funding to develop your own research project for up to five years.
- The research funding is designed to support the development of your research team, including the possibility of recruiting at least one predoctoral researcher for four years.
- The opportunity to act as Principal Investigator (PI) of your own research project from the start.
- Funding that can support eligible research costs including personnel, equipment, consumables, mobility, publications and scientific meetings, according to the conditions of the call.
- Additional incentives linked to participation and success in European Research Council (ERC) calls, which can increase the salary co-financing under the conditions established in the programme. - R3 – Established Researcher certification associated with the Ramón y Cajal programme.

Skills/Qualifications
We are seeking researchers with an outstanding scientific track record and strong potential for independent research leadership.
We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:
- PhD obtained between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2024.
- An excellent postdoctoral research trajectory.
- A strong record of high-quality scientific publications and other relevant research outputs.
- International research experience and/or mobility.
- Evidence of increasing research independence and leadership.
- The ability to establish a distinctive and competitive independent research programme in Historical grammar of the Spanish language.
- A clear vision for the development of their research line over the next five years.
- The capacity to formulate an ambitious, innovative and feasible research project with significant scientific and/or societal impact.
The 2026 call places particular emphasis on the candidate's scientific trajectory, independence and leadership, as well as the quality, novelty, feasibility and potential impact of the proposed research project. The evaluation process will also include an interview.
