RECRUITMENT OF RECTOR

Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) is a public application-oriented higher education institution in Macao with good international recognition. MPU has made comprehensive advancements in recent years across various areas, ranging from talent cultivation, academic development, campus construction, faculty team building, social services and international collaboration. Leveraging its high-quality teaching and research capabilities, MPU has consistently progressed in the Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings, entering the top 100 globally for sustainability, employment, and economic growth. In the QS World University Rankings, MPU is ranked at 901-950 globally, and has received a QS 5-Star Rating and the Global Engagement Performance Award, continuing to enhance its global competitiveness and international reputation. MPU is actively engaged in the development of the Macao-Hengqin international education (university) city, contributing to build the “International Education Demonstration Zone” and the “International Science and Technology Innovation Demonstration Zone”. With MPU's expansion and construction of a new campus in the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in 2026, this cross-regional educational footprint combines the strengths of both Macao and Hengqin, will enhance internationalization and regional synergy, heralding unprecedented opportunities.

MPU is embarking on a new journey of development and is now conducting a global recruitment for Rector. The successful applicant is expected to report duty in 2026.

As the chief executive in both academic and administrative affairs of the University, the Rector, with an international forward-looking perspective, leads all faculty, staff and students to achieve the goals set in development plans, fosters external collaborations, brings in major research projects, and enhances international influence and rankings of the University. The Rector coordinates the management in both academic and administrative areas, oversees operations of internal units and is accountable to the University Council.

The successful applicant should have the following credentials:

1. An earned doctoral degree and academic or professional honours;
2. At least eight years of teaching and research experience at the level of Professor or equivalent, with a record of innovation, invention or significant scholarly achievements, and have substantial contributions in teaching and research;
3. At least ten years of experience in senior management positions in higher education institutions, with preference given to those with experience in international higher education institutions;
4. The ability to formulate and implement strategic plans, as well as problem-solving and crisis management capabilities;
5. With extensive professional networks within academic circles, governmental bodies, and specialist sectors both domestically and internationally will be given priority consideration;
6. An international educational philosophy with a broad educational vision, demonstrating a sound understanding of global trends and opportunities with higher education;
7. A thorough understanding of the development of higher education and institutions in Mainland China and Macao;
8. Capable of working in both Chinese and English and proficiency in both languages; fluency in Putonghua will be an advantage.
