Reference and Instruction Librarian
Job Description
Great Basin College seeks a versatile and forward-thinking Reference & Instruction Librarian to join the new Learning Commons team. This is a unique opportunity for a well-rounded, student-centered professional to help shape a position that blends traditional library services with modern, transformational learning experiences.
We are looking for someone with a passion for access and community engagement - someone who can toggle between reference help, instructional support, technology, and outreach with curiosity and confidence. This position provides the opportunity to contribute to reference, research assistance, library instruction, faculty partnerships, and collection development, while being part of the Learning Commons team. An interest in archives or open educational resources is welcome and encouraged.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide in-person and online reference and research assistance for students, faculty, and staff
- Develop and deliver instruction on information literacy, media literacy, and critical thinking
- Collaborate with faculty to embed library resources and learning objects into curriculum and the LMS
- Support the use of Open Educational Resources (OERs) and advocate for inclusive, accessible materials
- Assist with circulation, cataloging, and collection development aligned with academic programs
- Analyze usage data and assess library services and instruction for continuous improvement
- Engage in outreach to promote library services and support a culture of lifelong learning
- Support tutoring, student success and Learning Commons programming
- Participate in faculty responsibilities, including program review, committee service, and community engagement

Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution OR
- Master's degree in a closely related field with at least three years of library experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills

Travel
This position may require travel to other campus locations and throughout the service area, which could include occasional overnight stays with or without reasonable accommodation as per the Americans with Disabilities Act. Travel is part of supporting students and programs across the region. A strong commitment to serving rural communities is essential.
Compensation Grade
Administrative Faculty - C. This is a 12 month "A" contract, 12 month contracts are used for year round programs. The budgeted salary range for this position is $61,553 - $77,000. Salary is based on relatable education and experience, internal equity and budgets.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees
Great Basin College is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate. Dependents of faculty have unlimited credits, but in order to be eligible children must be unmarried and under the age of 24 and must receive at least 50% of their financial support from the employee and/or employee's spouse or domestic partner.
