REGISTERED NURSE (Ambulatory Care Resource Pool - Procedure Cluster)

This is a "multiple fill" job opening: 
A total of two (2) (1.0 FTE), Registered Nurses will be hired to fill this job opening.

  • Provide nursing care in a variety of Ambulatory Care Procedure areas both on-site and off-site
  • Telephone management of patient and family calls including detailed assessment and triage of emergent/urgent situations
  • Candidates will coordinate nursing care between the pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-procedure phases, which may include directing other registered nurses, endoscopy/patient care technicians, and ancillary health care staff.
  • Candidates will administer sedation/analgesia under the direction of a physician.
  • Candidates will assess and document hemodynamic status during sedation and post-procedure phases.  Initiate and maintain peripheral intravenous lines.
  • Candidate should be able to provide patient and family-centered education and discharge teaching based on learning needs.
  • They will participate in developing department goals and objectives by attending staff meetings and in-service programs, attending appropriate continuing education opportunities and staff development programs, and participating in quality improvement initiatives to support the implementation of change.
  • Critical thinking using the nursing process, excellent problem-solving skills, and demonstrated ability to set priorities.
  • Exceptional customer service, interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to build respectful relationships between units and individuals.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

This posting will require travel to the various on and off-site procedural areas.

  • Demonstrated ability to set and implement priorities, organize and delegate effectively and efficiently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and communicate well with others (including peers)
  • Demonstrate abilities in interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills and problem-solving skill within all levels of the health care team
  • Candidates should be enthusiastic and patient-oriented individuals interested in creating the ideal experience for our patients, families, and employees, reporting directly to a Clinical Nursing Supervisor.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) to practice nursing in Michigan.
  • Minimum two (2) years of RN experience (at full-time status or equivalent) within the past five (5) years in any of the following specialties: Procedures, Preop/PACU, ICU, ED, Sedation
  • Analgesia Professional, Flight Nurse, or OR.
  • Ability to stand for an extended period.
  • One (1) year in the last five (5) years demonstrated proficiency with documentation in an electronic health record, e.g., Epic as indicated by interviews, references, and or performance evaluation.
  • Current ACLS (or completed during orientation)

  • IV/Phlebotomy skills
  • Procedural nursing experience in an inpatient or outpatient setting within the last 5 years
  • BSN preferred
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills as evidenced by resume, annual evaluations, and references
  • Experience in Ambulatory Care Nursing/Ambulatory Care Certification; certification in Gastroenterology, or PeriAnesthesia
  • PALS certification
  • Telephone management experience
  • Broad range of clinical experience
  • Experience as a float nurse
  • Ability to work effectively with an interdisciplinary health care team
  • Demonstrated accountability and dependability
  • Demonstrated positive attitude
  • Ability to prioritize effectively and work independently
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to varying schedules and different work environments, and exemplary customer relation skills

Salary & Nursing Framework Level: 
This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C. 
Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire. 
Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F. 

Hours/week: 40 hours. 4 10-hour shifts

Locations include: Medical Procedure Units: BCSC, EAA, NHC, UH; Burlington Spine PMR, Anesthesia Back & Pain clinic; Transplant Procedures UH

Shift: Day/Evening shift; Monday ? Friday; varying start times between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm, (Saturday expectation would occur if patient demands require additional days in the future)

Flexibility in scheduling is required.

All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.
