REGISTERED NURSE (Ambulatory Care, Ypsilanti Health Center- MULTI Specialty)

The RNs within these areas provide care to adult patients in all of the specialty areas in Ypsilanti Health Center. These specialties include: Dermatology, Neurology, Urology, Cardiology, MEND and Wound Clinic. Provide the delivery of culturally sensitive, age specific team based care models in deliver of nursing care within the Ypsilanti Health Center for Internal/Specialty Medicine.

CLINICAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Provide nursing care to patients within the YHC Specialty Clinics
  • Provide telephone triage, patient teaching, direct patient care, documentation with follow-up and coordination with ancillary services and related departments.
  • Provide functional supervision to allied health staff.
  • Work with the patients to develop and carry out clinical standards of care for various patient diagnoses.
  • May cross train to manage other Internal/Specialty Medicine specific patient population.
  • Independently and completely performs focused assessment to provide best practice patient care for families and patients.
  • Prioritizes key nursing diagnoses to address physical and psychosocial/emotional areas.
  • Practice is driven by theory and experience.
  • Independently develops, implements, and evaluates plan of care that recognizes subtle changes in patients condition and adapts plan as needed.
  • Experience in tele-health communication and phone triage.
  • Utilizes standard unit technology and uses advanced technology as appropriate.
  • Utilizes computer for basic functions as well as reference on patient conditions and treatment.
  • Accurately assesses patient's/family's readiness to learn, organizes and executes individualized teaching plan, evaluates patient's understanding and modifies approach as necessary.
  • Seeks out additional patient education resources beyond unit.
  • Demonstrates ease in application of hospital policies and unit procedures and protocols.
  • Anticipates, identifies and intervenes when there are concerns related to patient safety, staff safety and safe medication processes. Consults documentation to identify trends in patient status and enhance continuity of assessment and ongoing nursing care.
  • Monitors referrals.
  • Collaboration with other members of the health care team for optimal patient outcomes.

Required Qualifications:

  • Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Michigan
  • Recent (within 5 years) RN experience with adult medicine patients (non-research based, Non-OBGYN) in an ambulatory care setting.
  • 1 year of neurology and/or urology experience within the last year

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with IV Skills
  • Current ACLS certification
  • RN Experience with Neurology patients
  • Experience with patient/family education
  • Experience in phone triage
  • Proficient in MiChart In-basket management and documentation
  • Experience in writing and creating patient and family education materials.
  • BSN
  • Tele-health Nursing experience
  • Familiar with Epic electronic medical record platform
  • Proficiency with Michart documentation/notifications.
  • Knowledge of UMHHS policies and procedures.
  • Excellent attendance as evident by attendance record
  • Demonstrated commitment to Ypsilanti Community through work and/or volunteer experience

Salary & Nursing Framework Level: This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C. Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire. Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level E.

Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position. Posting may be filled after the initial 5-day posting period.

Hours/Week: 40 hours per week

Shift/Hours/Days: Monday through Friday; Day shift , potential for weekends with varied hours.

Location: Ypsilanti Health Center

Note: All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
