Bennington College is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality, culturally sensitive, and gender affirming general health care for acute and chronic medical conditions. Reporting to the Associate Dean & Director of Integrative Wellness, the RN will assess students' health needs and administer treatment within their scope of practice, and support overall operations to ensure Health Services performs to the national and state standards. This position will work 35 hours per week while the term is in session, and may work the week before and after terms commence, overall working 10 months in total per year.
The RN will work with all members of the Student Wellness Center team, supporting health care operations in collaboration with Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners and Nurse Practitioners.
Responsibilities
- Assesses, observes, and speaks to a diverse student population inclusive of members of ethnically/racially minoritized, international, LGBTQIA+, and disability communities, as well as diverse gender identities, socioeconomic backgrounds, religions, and political beliefs.
- Records details and symptoms of the patient's medical history and current health.
- Prepares patients for examinations and treatment.
- Administers medications and treatments, and monitors patients for side effects and reactions.
- Creates, implements, and evaluates patient care plans with the Health Services team.
- Performs wound care, such as cleaning and bandaging wounds.
- Operates and monitors medical equipment.
- Draws blood, urine samples, and other body fluids for lab work.
- Educating patients on treatment and care plans, as well as answering their questions.
- Assist with other medical procedures as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required with current, or eligible to obtain RN licensure in the State of Vermont; proof of completion for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a clinical setting (primary care, urgent care, or similar). CPR and First Aid certification required.
- Demonstrated ability to work with persons of diverse racial, socio-cultural, economic, and national backgrounds in support of student services and student learning.
- Knowledge of the developmental and health needs of college students.
- Computer literacy, including Google Suite and an electronic medical record system.
Bennington College requires a clinical staff member to obtain and maintain, for the duration of their employment with Bennington College, the requisite clinical license and controlled substance license. Bennington College will check/verify a clinical license upon hire and periodically upon demand. An employee must immediately inform the College if their clinical license and/or privileges are suspended or revoked.
Furthermore, as a condition of employment, Bennington College requires a clinical staff employee to obtain, and maintain for the duration of their employment with Bennington College, personal malpractice insurance coverage in an amount that is deemed sufficient by the College. The employee is required to purchase personal malpractice insurance and provide proof of insurance to the College, effective as of the first day of employment and periodically upon demand.
All offers of employment are contingent on successful completion and acceptable results of a background check.
Compensation: The annual salary for this partial-year position starts at $67,000.
