Offer Description
The Cancer Stem Cells and Fibroinflammatory Microenvironment Group is looking for a candidate for a CAM Synergy Project
Our group is based at the Instituto de Investigaciones Biomédicas Sols-Morreale (IIBM) - CSIC-UAM in Madrid, Spain, a joint center run by the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) and the Autonomous University in Madrid (UAM). We are also part of the Instituto Ramón y Cajal de Investigación Sanitaria (IRYCIS), one of the leading ISCIII-accredited Health Research Institutes in Spain.
The group has recently been awarded a CAM Synergy Project (SYG-2024/SAL-GL-711) funded by the Community of Madrid (CAM). These grants aim to support the development of disruptive, frontier research projects carried out jointly by two research groups affiliated with universities or research institutions within the CAM.
The project, acronym RUMBA, investigates how the gut microbiome of patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who exhibit exceptional responses to immunotherapy may serve as a source of immunomodulatory molecules capable of reversing T cell exhaustion within the tumor microenvironment. Through aptamer-based screening, multi-omics integration, advanced co-culture and organ-on-chip systems, and preclinical validation in genetically modified mouse models, we aim to identify and assess the impact of these molecules on antitumor immune responses in NSCLC. We will optimize stimulation conditions to maximize immunotherapy efficacy and perform validations in preclinical models. This approach seeks to discover novel drugs to overcome resistance in tumors that are refractory to immunotherapy.
We are looking for a highly motivated and competitive candidate to lead this exciting project.
The ideal candidate should have a highly competitive CV, including several Q1/D1 publications, international research experience, strong proficiency in English, and a solid background in molecular biology and in vitro techniques. Valid certification to work with laboratory animals will be considered an asset. For this position, experience with 3D/organoid cultures, immune cell–tumor cell interactions and co-cultures, flow cytometry, and knowledge of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is essential. Additional expertise in microbiome research will be positively valued.
We are offering a CSIC-based (M3) funded position for 2 years (with the possibility of extension), with a competitive salary and the opportunity to join a dynamic and productive research team. Start date: Autumn 2026
Those interested should contact Dr. Bruno Sainz (bsainz@iib.uam.es)
