We are a world class research-intensive university. We deliver teaching and learning of the highest quality. We play a leading role in economic, social and cultural development of the North East of England. Attracting and retaining high-calibre people is fundamental to our continued success.

Salary
Research Assistant: £33,002.00 - £34,610.00 per annum.
Research Associate: £35,608 - £37,694 per annum.

The Role

We are recruiting a motivated and experienced Research Assistant/Associate with expertise in gene expression and molecular biology to join an exciting new Biotechnology and Biological Research Council-funded project.

The project is focused on uncovering the role of the RNA binding protein Tra2β in normal brain development and how this goes wrong in a neurodevelopmental syndrome called TRA2B syndrome. We will use both in vitro and in vivo approaches. Your project will be focused on applying molecular biology, cell culture and analysis of brain development to uncover critical gene expression pathways regulated by this RNA binding protein. In addition, the project involves strong collaborative links with the MRC funded Mary Lyon Institute at Harwell, including analysis of a mouse model they are making.

In Newcastle you will join a research group investigating gene expression and RNA biology during normal health and disease. Here you will have access to the state-of-the-art facilities; all housed within the diverse Faculty of Medical Sciences. Within the Faculty you will join the Biosciences Institute, a cross-theme research institute with strong expertise in genes, chromosomes and the cell cycle.

In this role, you will expand your modern molecular lab-based, cell culture, genetic modification and in vivo skills. You will be responsible for driving this collaborative study, positively engaging with other group members and collaborators, contributing ideas and troubleshooting. You will have excellent opportunity to work with a broad range of researchers in both Newcastle and internationally.
