Research Assistant at Faculty of Law
At the chair of Prof. Dr. Ingeborg Zerbes, Institute for Criminal Law and Criminology, there is a vacancy for a research assistant. If you are interested in criminal law, academic work, independent teaching and studying for a dissertation, we look forward to receiving your application.
The chair of Prof. Zerbes is an independent organizational unit of the Institute for Criminal Law and Criminology and focuses its research on criminal law, criminal procedural law, the basic principles and rights of criminal law, in selected areas of commercial criminal law, in European and international criminal law and in comparative criminal law.
As a staff member, you will be involved in shaping the chair and, after training, you will work independently in all areas of criminal law and criminal procedural law. Your main tasks will be creating the podcast ‘ATreloaded’. Together with Prof. Zerbes and her team, you will produce the episodes, supervise the recording and prepare for publication.
Your task as a university assistant (prae doc) is collaboration in research and teaching. This includes, in addition to writing your dissertation, especially:
- the support of students
- the participation in correcting exams
- organizational matters (also concerning seminars and other lectures)
- research relating to various research projects
- independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
- technical support for the podcast ‘ATreloaded’
We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months.
The contract period upon employment is 3 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 3 years if the employer does not submit a non-extension declaration within the first 12 months.
Requirements:
- Completed diploma in law
- Excellent knowledge of Austrian (criminal) law
- Knowledge of international criminal law and European criminal law
- Working independently and responsible for results
- Excellent knowledge of German
- Very good knowledge of spoken and written English
- Extensive computer skills in any case in MS Office and in particular the audio programme Audacity
Also desirable are:
- In-depth study of criminal law and criminology as part of the elective course or in the course of the diploma thesis
- Relevant dissertation project
- Good knowledge of another foreign language, which enables legal work in this language
- Experience in legal practice through legal traineeship, legal internship
- Collaboration in a public authority or law firm or comparable activities
- Experience in recording and editing podcasts or similar
