Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Assistant in the Division of Allergy & Immunology at the Department of Paediatrics, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our dynamic team, working on clinical translational research in allergic diseases. This position offers a stimulating and intellectually enriching environment, providing opportunities for professional growth and development. Appointments will be made on an annual contract basis in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.

Purpose of the post

The Research Assistant will work closely with the Division of Allergy, Immunology & Rheumatology team and the Synthetic Biology for Clinical and Technological Innovation (SynCTI), in the discovery, development and validation of bioengineered probiotics for the treatment of atopic dermatitis. His/her primary role will be to perform laboratory assays and contribute to increasing and maintaining high quality, scientifically robust research within the Department of Paediatrics, NUS.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Assistant will be involved in conducting laboratory assays under the supervision of the Research Fellow (RF) and will be accountable to the Principal Investigator (PI) and Project Lead. The duties include but are not limited to:

  • Routine lab work and maintenance
  • Molecular biology work (e.g., RNA extraction, qPCR)
  • Tissue/Cell culture
  • Animal handling
  • Histochemical and immunohistochemical staining.

Qualifications

The applicant should:

  1. Have a Bachelors in biochemistry, molecular & cell biology, bioengineering, biomedical science or a related field;
  2. Have at least 2-3 years of working experience;
  3. Experienced in DNA/RNA extraction, molecular cloning and molecular biology techniques (e.g., qPCR), tissue/cell culture are preferred;
  4. Be able to work independently and in a team, have an investigative nature, attention to detail, self-motivated with initiative;
  5. Have outstanding organizational skills and interpersonal skills;
  6. Have basic computer literacy to applications such as MS office (Word, Excel) PowerPoint and Adobe;
  7. RCULA training and experience in mouse models would be advantageous.
