The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology Oncology is recruiting for a full-time Research Assistant in the Leukemia and Drug Development Laboratory (LDDL) under the mentorship of Dr. Erin Hertlein. This Research Assistant will work collaboratively with the LDDL team on various projects related to tumor biology and drug development.

Essential Functions

  • Contribute to collective team effort.
  • Document and organize research results and data according to NIH’s preferred good laboratory management practices (LabArchives) and UCLIMS.
  • Assist with the coordination of research studies in hematology.
  • Make independent contributions to projects and studies based on evidence-based literature.
  • Perform statistical and graphical analysis of data, interpretation of data, and validity of testing
  • Maintain timely project goals, deadlines, and studies for contributions to publications and grant funding applications.
  • Molecular biology techniques:
    • General cell culture techniques, patient sample processing, cell viability assays
    • Flow cytometry
    • Immunoblots/JESS
    • Basic and next-generation sequencing techniques
    • Immune assays (cytokine assays, CFUs)
    • PCR based genotyping
    • Preparing single cell suspensions from murine models (spleen and bone marrow)
  • Organize research results and data according to good laboratory management practices.
  • Understanding the models used in the LDDL (i.e. cell line systems, basic primary cancer cell characteristics and murine models).

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree.Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.
