Research Assistant (Fixed Term)

Research Assistant (Fixed Term)

The Urological Malignancies Virtual Institute (UMVI) is looking for a motivated and organised Research Assistant.

The successful candidate will support the UMVI's translational research programme, assist the smooth and effective running of our translational studies and clinical trials. The role will involve hands-on sample collection and processing, data entry and administrative work.

The Urological Malignancies Virtual Institute, a network of around 100 researchers, is an important part of the CRUK Cambridge Cancer Centre. Led by Professor Grant Stewart and Dr Brent O'Carrigan, the UMVI works to improve outcomes for patients with urological cancers. The CRUK Cambridge Centre is internationally renowned and benefits from a major commitment from Cancer Research UK, recognising Cambridge's position at the forefront of cancer research.

Our main work centres around translational clinical studies, which obtain bio samples from patients with urological cancers (i.e. kidney, prostate and bladder) and provides them to our researchers to help us understand the mechanisms by which urological cancers arise, progress and evade detection.

Our team is small and focused, with a busy daily schedule. Daily activities include consenting patients to research studies, obtaining biological samples, completing case report forms, entering data onto clinical research databases, and maintaining study documentation.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that samples are collected, handled, stored and logged in accordance with current regulations, including HTA guidance, and that data is accurately collected, recorded, stored and shared in compliance with GDPR and University policies.

You will need the ability to work in a self-directed, independent and flexible manner, and enjoy working in a small team where members have a wide range of skills and backgrounds. Some out of hours working is required to collect and process samples from early morning and late running surgeries.

Informal enquiries may be made to Mrs Carley Batley, the Urological Malignancies Virtual Institute Manager in the first instance - cb2147@cam.ac.uk

Further information on our group can be found at our website: https://www.cambridge-urologicalmalignancies.org.uk

Funding is available to support this for 12 months in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment and a standard Disclosure and Barring Service check.
