Research Assistant in Climate Compatible Growth

We are seeking a full-time Research Assistant in Climate Compatible Growth to join the Energy and Power (EPG) research group at the Department of Engineering Science (Osney). The post is funded by the Climate Compatible Growth (CCG) programme and is fixed-term until 31 March 2027. The position will be based in Engineering Science but will be co-supervised by Professor Stephanie Hirmer (EPG) and Dr Jessica Omukuti in the Smith School for Enterprise and the Environment.

CCG is a £95m UK ODA-funded research programme running until March 2030, helping developing countries take a path of low carbon development whilst simultaneously unlocking profitable investment in green infrastructure, opening up new markets and supporting delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The successful candidate will support the team’s work on place-based decision-making, with a particular focus on the social dimensions of critical minerals development, including community impacts, benefit sharing, and inclusive development outcome. The ethos of EPG is focused on developing individuals to reach their goals, developing real-world tools and techniques for sustainable energy systems and to celebrate diversity. A hybrid working pattern is normal practice for the group, along with a range of other benefits including:

You should hold a relevant first and masters degree, possess sufficient specialist knowledge in energy systems or energy access in low- and middle-income countries and its application to policy and/or economic analysis in these regions, and have experience in engaging with relevant stakeholders to inform research and policy development.
