Research Assistant- MCG-Immunology Center of GA
Job Summary
The primary responsibilities of this position include mouse colony management and record keeping. After receiving training, the employee will work under minimal supervision on a day-to-day basis and will be capable of managing his or her own duties and research efforts effectively.
Responsibilities
- Manage animal colony through breeding and weaning, to ensure overcrowded cage penalties are avoided. Maintain cage cards, animal histories, and other records as required. Collect tail clippings from mice and prepare for shipping twice a week. Enter and track genotyping results. Observe animals daily to assess health, environmental conditions, and social environment. Manage mouse colony management software. Generate reports on specific mouse lines. Administer special diets.
- Perform pinning and surgeries as needed. Design new mouse lines (genetics). Place mouse orders. Receive new mice into database.
- Order cage cards and cage inserts. Invoice management and maintaining stocks relevant to mice.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research, basic science, or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.
OR
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
SKILLS
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Salary: $17.88-$19.23 per hour.
Pay Band: B5
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
This position is (fully/partially) funded through external sources. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of these funds.

The Immunology Center of Georgia (IMMCG) represents a new initiative by the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University to leverage the ability of the immune system to combat disease. The IMMCG will accomplish this by assembling teams of biomedical researchers with strong records of scientific innovation and technological development. The IMMCG will be co-directed by world-class immunologists Drs. Catherine, Lynn, Hedrick and Klaus Ley, both of whom have made major discoveries linking immune cells to specific mechanisms of disease. The goal of the IMMCG is to produce novel and effective treatments for conditions that heavily impact the communities of Georgia and the United States. The new center is aggressively recruiting faculty and staff to lead projects focused on cardiovascular disease, obesity and metabolic disorders, autoimmune and infectious disease, neurodegenerative disease and cancer.
