Research Assistant- MCG Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine
Job Summary
Conduct research on Alzheimer's disease, neuropsychiatric disorders, and the microbiome using transgenic mouse models in Seo laboratory (https://sites.google.com/view/the-seo-laboratory).
Responsibilities
Responsibilities to include, but are not limited to:
- Perform molecular biology/biochemical experiments, minor surgical, microscopic, and statistical/computational analyses. Executes sample processing by microtome/cryostat sectioning.
- Observe animals daily for clinical or behavioral signs of illness and provide treatments as directed by veterinary staff. Maintain mouse breeding colonies, including genotyping.
- Perform studies on Alzheimer's disease, neuropsychiatric disorders, and the microbiome using transgenic mouse models. Feeding special diets, administrating pharmacological drugs to mice, and weighting mice. Performing animal behavior tests.
- Participate in research data collection and documentation within relevant guidelines and protocols and publish results in scientific journals. Assures compliance with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen inventory. Develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures.
- Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or other natural, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research, basic science, or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.
OR
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or other natural, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years of experience in a research, basic science, or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases or willingness to learn.
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and prioritization skills.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality, complete work and meet deadlines.
Willingness and ability to work with research animals.
Ability to work independently with only general supervision.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Pay Band: B5
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
