The Mellon College of Science (MCS) is home to four departments and many programs and research centers that cross disciplines. We approach scientific problems from fresh angles using creative interdisciplinary approaches while drawing on our departmental strengths in the core sciences. MCS faculty members are nationally and internationally recognized for their research in a variety of fields, including polymer science, cosmology, mathematical finance, and neuroscience.
Our Physics Department is seeking a Research Assistant to help organize the lab in terms of fabrication facilities, especially associated with a shared lab space. In addition, this role will assist with preparing 2D materials through exfoliation and following fabrication process, and the characterization of the fabricated heterostructure devices.
Core Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain critical laboratory infrastructure supporting the shared space in 2D center, Wean Hall.
- Perform exfoliation and prepare 2D flakes on SiO2/Si substrate.
- Stacking 2D materials and fabricate heterostructure devices.
- Collaborate with project teams to characterize these flakes and devices.
- Analyze data and trouble shoot problems with fabrication process.
- Train undergraduate researchers in the lab.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Previous research lab and data entry experience preferred.
- A combination of education and proven experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
