About The Team
The Personalised Medicine Centre is a joint initiative between Murdoch University and the Perron Institute, bringing together leading researchers and clinicians to advance personalised medicine. Our multidisciplinary team is dedicated to developing tailored treatments based on individual genetic and lifestyle factors. We focus on a wide range of critical health challenges, including genetic therapies, genomics, motor neurone disease, sepsis, immunogenomics, drug hypersensitivity, cognitive health, muscular dystrophy, and neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, myositis, and multiple sclerosis.
Your New Role!
The Research Assistant in the Personalised Medicine Centre (PMC) undertakes laboratory work as required for the completion of specific research projects. Key responsibilities will include –
- Processing of human-derived samples such as blood, saliva and urine in accordance with established biosafety and ethical guidelines.
- Conducting experiments using cell culture, flow cytometry, immunoassays (e.g., ELISA/ELISPOT), cell transfection, and molecular assays (e.g., PCR/qPCR).
- Analysing experimental data using statistical and bioinformatics tools.
- Restocking, organising and maintenance of laboratory spaces.
- Updating databases.
- Producing data for preparation of research papers for scholarly journals.
- Maintenance of a clear and detailed account of experimental procedures and results.
- Other duties as required.

This Fixed Term (12 months) | Full Time (37.5 hours per week) position attracts a remuneration of $71,000 – $88,000 plus 17% employer superannuation contributions.

What you’ll bring to the role:
- Completion of a relevant degree with honours, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training in tissue culture.
- Sound understanding of immunology, with an emphasis on T cells and the ability to apply this knowledge to experimental design and data interpretation.
- Proven experience in performing single cell assays such as 10x Genomics and analysing single-cell datasets.
- Competence in cell culture techniques, including maintenance and manipulation of primary human cells.
- Relevant experience and ability to coordinate data collection and undertake other research studies under supervision.
- Technical laboratory skills, and ability to maintain clear and accurate laboratory records.
- Highly developed organisational and time management skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- Ability to effectively analyse information and produce clear, succinct reports and documents.
- Ability to ensure information is kept secure and maintain strict confidentiality.
