Research Assistant – Neurogenetics

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We are seeking a Research Assistant – Neurogenetics to support research activities within the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. In this role, you will contribute to neurogenetics research by assisting with data collection, data entry, participant coordination, and maintaining accurate research records in accordance with study protocols.

You will help ensure research data is collected, recorded, and stored securely, supporting both clinical and physiotherapy assessments. The role also involves assisting with the set‑up and calibration of Quantitative Muscle Assessment (QMA) equipment and helping to develop efficient procedures for managing patient data and study participation. In addition to research‑related responsibilities, you will provide broader administrative support to the team, including coordinating meeting bookings, preparing agendas, taking minutes, and supporting general administrative tasks to help ensure the smooth running of project activities.

This position plays an important part in enabling high‑quality clinical research and maintaining ethical and confidentiality standards.

This is a part-time (30 hours per week), fixed term for 12 months.

The salary range for this role is $68,101 - $79,300 (pro-rated), depending on experience and qualifications.

You will be someone who values accuracy, professionalism, and high‑quality research practice. You will bring strong interpersonal and communication skills, a collaborative approach, and the ability to work with care when handling research information. Your ability to follow research protocols, manage data effectively, and contribute to a positive research environment will be key to your success.

You will bring:

  • Relevant undergraduate degree in a field such as health sciences, nursing, or physiotherapy.
  • Experience working in a clinical or health research setting along with data entry experience, in a team
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Competency with MS software such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Good planning and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and work towards deadlines

It would be beneficial if you also have:

  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification.
  • Experience using RedCap databases.
  • Experience with clinical questionnaires and assessments.
  • Ability to effectively manage work independently and in a timely manner
