Research Assistant

Position Summary

The research assistant will assist the Principal Investigator in implementing research protocols. The research assistant will support research investigating neurosensory pathways, social-emotional development, and elevated likelihood for mental health and neurodevelopmental disorders in maternal-child dyads.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate well in a team environment and regularly present the state of work.
  • Follow good clinical practice guidelines.
  • Maintain IRB protocols, approvals, and reports.
  • Initiate and maintain contact with study participants & work in concert with the Principal Investigator to develop and implement participant recruitment.
  • Screen applicants, ensuring they meet the appropriate criteria, and make an independent judgment on their suitability for participation.
  • Track participant enrollment and payments.
  • Schedule participant visits.
  • Assist the Principal Investigator with the development of standard operating procedures for data collection tasks.
  • Assists with all data collection, including ECG and other physiological measures, cognitive, behavioral, and/or developmental assessments, and parent-child-interaction recordings.
  • Interact professionally with research participants and research personnel.
  • Coordinate the collection of follow-up data on participants as required by the protocol.
  • Code behavioral and physiological data.
  • Coordinate data management and other aspects of research protocols being conducted, including organizing and maintaining the database, and entering and maintaining participant records in project databases.
  • Assist the Principal Investigator in manuscript and grant preparation, as well as presentation of research data.
  • Manage lab supplies needed for daily office activities and specific research projects.
  • Assist with the management of laboratory budget, including ordering equipment and supplies.
  • Perform additional related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and at least one and one-half years of related experience or equivalent in education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Computing, programming, or software skills across multiple platforms are helpful, as is familiarity with statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS, R, MATLAB).
  • Bilingual in Spanish.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Analytical skills and the ability to resolve technical or research problems and issues, and to interpret the acceptability of data results.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required to work with study participants.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of clinical research protocols.
  • High degree of computer literacy.
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect for subjects' rights and individual needs.
  • Knowledge of data management programs.
  • Participation in the medical surveillance program. + Contact with patients and/or human research subjects.
  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements.
