Research Assistant, Per Diem (Multiple Vacancies)
Position Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a per diem Research Assistant for the department of Neuroscience & Cell Biology at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Under direction of the Principal Investigator, perform independent research and contribute to maintenance of lab supplies and equipment. Studies include tissue culture experiments including differentiating stem cells into motor neurons and exposing them to different treatments, generation of lenti and adeno associated viruses, immunostaining, microscopy, and molecular biology. Job will also include helping to order and maintain supplies in the lab.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- As directed, performs various technical tasks related to ongoing research in the lab to study neuronal maturation.
- Performs cell culture experiments including stem cells, motor neurons, Hek cells, and helps other lab members with their cell culture experiments.
- Contribute to validation of results generated from analysis of next generation sequencing studies.
- Responsible for submitting purchase recommendations to supervisor.
- Keep detailed records of procedures and experiments.
- Handle additional related responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Satisfactory completion of an undergraduate/graduate degree.
- Experience in cell culture and molecular biology techniques such as CRISPR gene editing.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, talking or hearing. No special vision requirements.
- Work Environment: Moderate noise. Laboratory environment.
