Research Associate
Job Summary
Performs advanced administrative and technical work in support of research initiatives in an assigned laboratory or clinical research unit. Participates in research data collection and documentation within FDA guidelines and research institute protocols; develops and evaluates new research techniques and procedures. Performs a variety of complex chemical, biological, cytological, microscopic, histological, surgical, clinical and/or dissection procedures.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Advise principal investigators, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students and other research personnel on research techniques, procedures and other technological aspects of research activities.
- Supervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants and other employees engaged in research activities and/or related laboratory work.
- Teach and participate in complex bacteriological, chemical and/or radiochemical qualitative and quantitative analysis, macro- and microserological, histological and cell culture procedures.
- Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair and operate electron microscopes, computer-linked analytical equipment, dedicated computers, and other complex scientific equipment; instructs others in operation of equipment.
- Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings; develops derivative applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reported by other research projects.
- Analyze results of research experiments and procedures using manual or computer techniques; may develop special computer program to facilitate analysis.
- Participate in physical examination, testing and/or treatment of study patients for research purposes; read and record vital signs; obtain tissue and/or fluid samples for further testing; document study specific procedures and outcomes in study patient's medical record.
- Compose articles for publication in scientific journals; reviews articles prepared by others.
- Participate in project planning and development of research protocols to ensure adherence to accept scientific research principles, compliance with human assurance and the FDA.
- May perform a variety of administrative duties such as ordering equipment and supplies; responsible for maintenance of equipment schedules, record keeping, clean-up, etc.
- Perform other related duties incidental to work described herein.
Required Qualifications
Masters degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, social sciences, natural sciences, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research, basic science or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research.
OR
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or natural life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years research and/or clinical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Excellent customer service, interpersonal, multi-tasking, organizational and verbal/written communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) and other computer software/databases.
Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines despite often interruptions, maintain confidentiality, keep accurate records and make independent decisions
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)
Pay Band: B8
Salary Range: $45,400/annually - $48,000/annually
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
