Job Description Summary
The Associate Director of Research will support the Director of the RVCL Research Center in managing research operations, fostering a collaborative environment for mechanistic studies, therapeutic development, and translation of treatments for retinal vasculopathy with cerebral leukoencephalopathy and systemic manifestations (RVCL). This role involves co-managing research teams, advancing intellectual property, contributing to grant and manuscript writing, and coordinating with translational and clinical teams to progress pre-clinical research toward clinical applications, including gene therapies and small molecules.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist with overseeing research operations, including development of strategic goals, management of laboratory meetings, coordinating clinical trial development and management, and tracking progress, and translating activities into budgets.
- Direct research strategy, including goal setting, grant writing, establishing alliances, and contributing to manuscripts and strategic planning.
- Manage intellectual property and publications, including collaboration with legal and technology transfer groups to file disclosures and establish agreements.
- Assist with supervision of laboratory personnel, including hiring, training, performance appraisals, and managing external collaborations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Position Contingent Upon Funding
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, and 5 to 7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Preferred
- Experience that includes Ph.D. or M.D. training.
- Experience in rare disease research, translational medicine, or gene therapy development.
- Background in rheumatology, oncology, infectious diseases, ophthalmology, neurology, or related fields pertinent to vascular or genetic disorders.
- Prior involvement in interdisciplinary research centers or alliances with external partners.
- Demonstrated expertise in research planning, grant writing, intellectual property management, and team supervision.
- Strong skills in implementing policies, utilizing research databases, developing standard operating procedures, and overseeing research programs.
- Proficiency in competencies such as collaboration, effective communication, customer focus, accountability, trust-building, interpersonal savvy, process optimization, organizational awareness, resourcefulness, and valuing differences.
