About the role
The programme of work in which the PDRA will participate is an international collaboration between geneticists and biologists from the Universities of Exeter, Cambridge and Copenhagen with Imperial College, London. Its overall aim is to understand the key genes, and their effects, in determining a healthy reproductive lifespan.
What you would be doing
You will be responsible for further developing in vitro cell models that are relevant to both age of menopause and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in the laboratory of Prof Stephen Franks. You will explore gene function and hormonal pathways relevant to ovarian ageing and PCOS, using ovarian cell models, molecular techniques and integrative analysis.
What we are looking for
We will expect you to have experience in mammalian cell culture, especially primary cells and to be competent in gene perturbation techniques (e.g. siRNA, DNA transfection). We also require you to have practical experience in a broad range of techniques including qPCR, protein analysis by immunohistochemistry and western immunoblotting. You should be accustomed to work in a team and to have good written and verbal communication skills.
What we can offer you
The opportunity to work as part of an international collaboration and to visit, and have practical experience in the other labs involved in the programme. The opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution and be part of our mission to continue science for humanity. Benefit from sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 39 days off a year and generous pension schemes). Get access to a range of workplace benefits including a flexible working policy from day 1, generous family leave packages, on-site leisure facilities and a cycle-to-work scheme.
