Salary: £31,387 to £46,485 per annum, depending on skills and experience (minimum £34,866 with relevant PhD). Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

Applications are invited for the role with specific responsibility for carrying out fundamental and translational research and developing proposals for research projects within the National Biofilm Innovation Centre (NBIC) at Nottingham University.

The person appointed will be expected to: (i) interact with researchers from NBIC at Nottingham and other leading and partner institutions; (ii) interact professionally with industrial partners in a highly multidisciplinary environment; (iii) work to very tight deadlines and manage multiple projects; (iv) report regularly to industrial partners and NBIC members via formal written reports and oral presentations; (v) support NBIC training activities and supervise postgraduate researchers and visitors; (vi) write scientific research papers to high standards; and (vii) assist with the preparation of project proposals for industry and grant applications.

The person appointed will have the opportunity to use their initiative and creativity to identify research areas, develop research methods, and extend their research portfolio.

This position requires extensive experience in genetic manipulation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and bacterial biofilms, including molecular biology such as construction of reporter fusions, mutagenesis, and transcriptomic analysis. Extensive experience in the study of bacterial regulatory RNAs including Northern blots and EMSAs, and in RNAseq preparation and analysis is also required. It would be advantageous to have experience in confocal microscopy, quantifying antimicrobial sensitivity, and using in vitro virulence factor bioassays.

Candidates must hold a PhD (or be close to completion) in Microbiology or a relevant subject area.

This full-time (36.25 hours), fixed-term post is available from 1 September 2025 to 30 November 2026. Job share arrangements may be considered.
