Research Associate - Generative AI for Causal Reasoning

Your Role

The SnT is seeking a Postdoc to support the research and development work within the SEDAN group. We seek a candidate with expertise and/or interest in machine learning and cybersecurity. The candidate will work on a CORE project funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) to explore and validate theoretical research. The main objective is to build a cybersecurity-oriented telemetry framework capturing and modeling causal dependencies in a microservice-based infrastructure to identify complex inter-dependencies among events.

The project aims to progress on causal inference modeling by combining probabilistic reasoning and deep learning models to create a model capable of reasoning under uncertainty. The postdoc will research refining AI-generated causal models through a Reinforcement Learning loop. LLMs can generate logic-based code representing probabilities, and the RL loop will refine the model using real data. The candidate will also be involved in project management, reporting, and dissemination.

Your Profile

The candidate should possess a PhD degree in Computer Science/engineering or Telecommunication Engineering. Key qualities include being a collaborative team player, motivated, independent, and proactive. Required knowledge and experience: good understanding of ML algorithms and architectures, knowledge in statistics and stochastic models, cybersecurity, good programming skills, comfort with Linux environments, and autonomy. Bonus qualifications: experience in Large Language Models and reinforcement learning, knowledge of networks and systems. Language skills: fluent in English; knowledge of French, German, or Luxembourgish is appreciated but not required.
